Support Chicago Bird Alliance’s Bird Conservation Work
How Your Donation Makes a Difference for Birds
Chicago’s habitats are used by many birds at risk. The Chicago Bird Alliance, a volunteer-led grassroots organization, has a strategic plan to marshal the resources of our area to help these birds. Funds are used to support staff salary to expand into more communities, grow our communications about important conservation issues, host speakers, support our programming and habitat restoration, and more.
Community outreach
We have initiated multi-lingual bird walks in new communities such as Humboldt and McKinley Parks, partner on a combined bird walk/habitat restoration series in the Calumet area, and sponsor Out-in-Nature walks by and for the LGQBT+ community.
Advocacy
Chicago Bird Alliance actively advocates for natural areas like Montrose Beach, where we helped organize monitors to protect endangered Great Lakes Piping Plovers and other birds.
We are working with the city government to pass a ground-breaking Bird Friendly Buildings Design Ordinance, and with Friends of the Chicago River on a guide to bird-friendly river habitat.
Habitat restoration
Volunteer workdays at Camp Pine and Whistler Woods help restore important migration stopovers and nesting habitat by removing invasive species and planting native trees, shrubs and grasses.
bird collision reduction
We are a proud member of Bird Friendly Chicago, working hard to bring about bird-friendly regulations for buildings.
Through the Lights Out program, Chicago Bird Alliance works with the Building Owners and Managers Association to make our city safer for birds.
Education
We provide important bird and conservation education to the public, including the Compelling Voices program featuring national leaders in birding conservation, and Partnering for Birds, a guide to local bird conservation. Check out our video archives here.
Community Science
We organize and lead community science efforts throughout the year such as the Spring Count and our blitzes of specific preserves, and substantiate the importance of habitats to area wildlife.
