Chicago Bird Alliance members, volunteers, and CBCM monitors have noticed a number of birds found entangled in fishing line on land managed by the Chicago Park District and the Forest Preserves of Cook County. Recently, CBA member Alex Haza took this alarming photo of an owl trapped in fishing line.
Rodenticides and Birds
Rodenticides kill owls and other raptors in our city. We’re working to stop that. Four famous owls have died this spring due to rodenticide poisoning: Flaco in New York City, and the entire beloved Great horned owl family in Lincoln Park. Willowbrook Wildlife Center has confirmed other raptor deaths due to rodenticide poisoning. Limiting the use of rodenticides would help our local hawks, eagles and owls to live longer lives.
