Did you know that the Cook County Forest Preserves Fisheries Management Division manages 2,000 acres of lakes, rivers, and ponds and stocks more than 7,000 pounds of fish each year (with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources)?
Join us with James Phillips, Fisheries Biologist with the Forest Preserves of Cook County to learn more about the waterfowl, shorebirds, and other wildlife– including several threatened and endangered species - that take advantage of Cook County Forest Preserve lakes and wetlands.
While making their acquaintance you'll hear how the FPCC's Fisheries Section, along with the District's Wildlife and Ecology Sections, balance management of some of the District’s lakes for both recreation and wetland birds, while most others are managed as wildlife refuges.
