Migration Walk at Washington Park

Photo: Swainson’s thrush by Mick Thompson

Join us for a Saturday morning bird walk in the Hyde Park neighborhood’s “under-birded” Washington Park!

Designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Washington Park contains 35.7 acres of prairie and wetlands. The lagoon and surrounding habitat are great for birds such as warblers, flycatchers and herons. Since this is migration season, expect a wide selection of everything!

Meeting Spot: The group will meet at the Fountain of Time, located on the southeast corner of Washington Park. You can park on the street nearby on Payne Drive.

Accessibility: The group will walk approximately 2 miles of unpaved and paved trails (mostly flat). There are benches along the path. The natural areas are distant from traffic & noises and does not experience high crowd volume.

Trip Leaders: Jackie Smith (Washington Park land steward) & Katharine Spencer

Limit: 12 participants; registration is required.

Later Event: April 29
