Join CBA board member and trip leader Woody Goss for these special migratory waterbird events at Steelworkers Park!
Lakewatching is a particular style of birding that can involve fleeting experiences of fast-flying birds both near and far, including large numbers of migrants not seen on land. Woody will demonstrate the art of lakewatching through both binoculars and a spotting scope.
We will see diving ducks like Scaup and Redhead. All three Scoter species are possible. Loons will be around, as well as later migratory gulls like Bonaparte's, Lesser-black Backed, Iceland, and - if we're really lucky - Black-legged Kittiwake. Winter songbirds could include Snow Buntings and Juncos.
A spotting scope for the group will be provided, but feel free to bring one if you have it.
Registration is required.
Meeting Spot: Turn east onto 87th Street off S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive and follow it all the way east until it ends. You will see the parking lot there.
