CANCELED DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER: Birding Outing at Graceland Cemetery

  • Graceland Cemetery (map)

This outing is canceled in anticipation of poor weather. Please look out for other outing opportunities on our website.

Join Chicago Bird Alliance and Ravenswood Neighbors Association as we partner to explore all of nature’s offerings at Graceland Cemetery & Arboretum.

We will spend 1.5-2 hours navigating mostly flat, asphalt-paved trails. Those of all skill and experience levels are welcome including beginner, LGBTQIA2S+ and disabled birders.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own birding optics (binoculars, cameras, etc.), but we have binoculars available upon request. Comfortable walking shoes and plenty of water to stay hydrated are suggested.

Accessibility details: We will cover a distance of approximately 1-3 miles depending on what we encounter along the way. The group may occasionally venture on to grassy lawn areas or woodchip/dirt paths. There are no benches or rest areas along the path, though there are monument steps along the way that can fill this purpose as needed. Restrooms are available at the Graceland visitor center. Breaks, sensory aids, and AAC are welcome throughout the walk. The Graceland grounds are generally quieter than walking along the road, though there is some noise from traffic, trains, and airplanes.

Meeting Spot: Meet at the cemetery main entrance located at 4001 N. Clark St. The location is accessible via the #22 and #80 buses and is also within walking distance from the Red and Brown CTA L lines.

Trip Leader: Katharine Spencer (she/her) is an enthusiastic and autistic Chicago birder with a lifelong interest in animals and nature. She loves bird facts, walking around in search of birds, and being out in the forest as much as possible.
