This event is part of an international effort led by @BlackAFinSTEM and eBird from Cornell Lab. June 5 is the last day of #BlackBirdersWeek2021 and what better way to celebrate Black Happiness in Nature than to go birding with the living legend herself?

An email will be sent out to participants with exact meeting location and other relevant details on the morning of June 4.

Deja Perkins is an urban ecologist and science communicator that is passionate about encouraging people to explore the nature in their own neighborhoods.

"Nature can be found everywhere, not only in the amazing national parks, and state parks that we see on tv, but even close to home. No matter if you live in a rural or an urban environment. I believe that everyone should have equal access to natural spaces especially within the city." - Deja Perkins

This birding experience will be held at Sherman Park. This is a beautiful park with a ring-shaped lagoon surrounding the playing fields at the center of the park. Four gorgeous bridges connect the inner island with the outer park in this unique layout. In addition to the water source, there are many trees and vegetation that birds can find very welcoming. The only things missing at this location are birders!

This event is free, but you must register to participate.

There will be a limited number of spots available.

People who identify as Black will be given priority in registering for this event.
