Hello everyone!
The Chicago Audubon Society, the Chicago Ornithological Society and the Illinois Ornithological Society are excited to announce a contest for the naming of the Chicago 2020 Piping Plover chicks. With each chick having their own unique band combination, they are now individually identifiable.
Anyone interested may submit up to 3 proposed names via the online forms below. The naming process will be open until end-of-day July 8, 2020. We are asking for the names submitted to reflect Chicago's heritage, culture and diversity. We will select and announce the names prior to the chicks' departure on their southern journey.
The name selection will be made from the list of submitted names by representatives of the three birding organization, as well as representatives of Chicago and Cook County organizations with ties to birds, nature and wildlife, including the Chicago Park District, the Forest Preserves of Cook County, Openlands, Wild Indigo, Enlace, the American Indian Cultural Center and other organizations representing the diverse communities of Chicago and Cook County. These organizations are reaching out to their constituencies for participation in the naming process, to ensure that the names submitted are reflective of Chicago's diversity.
We are excited to hear your thoughts for potential names. Below are links to the Piping Plover Naming Forms, in English and in Spanish.
