Hello all!
As we’re in the midst of peak fall migration, we’re also in the midst of peak building collisions. Bird Friendly Chicago and its supporting organizations are looking to assemble a group of volunteers that can help speak up for bird conservation as new building projects work their way through city permitting. While the effort for a full bird-friendly building ordinance is on-going, hazardous projects continue to get built. We are looking for people who can dedicate a few hours of time to attend plan commission meetings and make statements on behalf of bird-friendly building measures.
The volunteer experience would include:
One to three organizing zoom calls, including some basic training on how to advocate for bird-friendly buildings at a plan commission meeting.
Attendance at at least 2 plan commission meetings a year. These are held at Chicago City Hall on weekdays during business hours and can last about a couple hours.
Periodic assistance in submitting online letters of support for bird-friendly buildings for specific projects.
The best time to build a bird-friendly building was 50 years ago, the next best time is right now. Help Bird Friendly Chicago ensure that birds can safely migrate through our city for decades to come!!
