Bird Feed - Birds in Art: A Flighty History

Banner image: Plaque Depicting a Quail Chick, Ptolemaic Period (332–30 BCE), Egyptian, from the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago

Art depends on birds.  They’re one of the most common subjects in world art overall.

Art historian and birder Mark Pohlad examines some masterpieces of bird art from many periods and locales, including a few works from Chicago collections in this forty-minute, narrated PowerPoint presentation.  Well-known artists are represented here, and we can pause to recognize some specific bird species in their pieces.

The program is informative and fun–a way to appreciate our feathered family through the eyes of bird-loving creatives!

Please register in advance for this online Zoom meeting. You’ll receive a confirmation email afterwards with a link to the program.
