Meet at 8:00 am in the William W. Powers State Park parking lot along S Avenue O. Click here for Google Map directions to the parking area.
We will start by scanning Wolf Lake from the parking lot and State Line Road for birds using any open water in the area. Next, we’ll head to the Stoney Island landfill looking for raptors and gulls. We will then scan for gulls, waterfowl and eagles in the Calumet river at the south end of Stoney Island Ave. Time permitting we may also check the Bend in the Little Calumet River. This is typically a great place to find a variety of waterfowl this time of year. You will want to dress warmly and bring your own food and drink.
Pace & Difficulty: Carpooling with multiple stops, getting out of the car, and scanning bodies of water. Short walks on pave and unpaved paths, possibly through snow if we have it on the ground at that time.
