The doctor bird is distinguished by extremely long tail feathers on the male. It is Jamaica’s national bird and holds a unique niche in the world, being endemic to the island. Audrey Peterman's new book, “From My Jamaican Gully to the World,” shares how the confidence she acquired growing up wild and free in Jamaica helped her make a change in America. A bird, a person, a community, we’re all unique and together we make up this magnificent whole which only becomes more enjoyable and sustainable the more we notice and appreciate each other.

Audrey Peterman is President and Co-founder of Earthwise Productions, Inc., and in 2014 co-launched the Diverse Environmental Leaders Speakers Bureau. Earthwise Productions focuses on connecting the public lands system and the American public. An immigrant from Jamaica, Audrey and her husband Frank stumbled upon the National Park System on a road trip, and the splendor gave her a keen awareness of the privilege of being an American. For 20 years the Petermans have striven to make this an egalitarian experience for all.  Earthwise has been featured by outlets including MSNBC and Audrey’s accolades include the Environmental Hero Award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
