Early Evening Swallow Outing at Montrose

  • Montrose Bird Sanctuary (map)

CBA Board Member Woody Goss will lead an outing focused on the many swallows and other bird species that begin roosting with new young of year birds in late August. Around this time, large numbers of purple martins, barn swallows, blackbirds and starlings flock together as the young birds of that season become fully able to fly. This is best seen around sunset when the flock becomes concentrated, takes a few flights, and then settles. Montrose is a special place to witness this spectacle.

Trip Leader: Woody Goss

Meeting Spot: Meet at the main entrance to Montrose Bird Sanctuary.
