Join CBA board member Woody Goss for these special migratory waterbird events at Steelworkers Park!
Lake watching is a particular style of birding that can involve fleeting experiences of fast-flying birds both near and far, including large numbers of migrants not seen on land. November is a great month for diving ducks like Redhead and Scaup, and all three scoter species frequent the area. Common and red-throated loons are near their peak numbers. It’s also a good month to catch migratory gulls on their way back to wintering grounds, such as Lesser and Great black-backed, Iceland, and Bonaparte’s gulls.
A spotting scope for the group will be provided, but feel free to bring one if you have it.
There is no capacity limit, but registration is required.
Meeting Spot: Turn east onto 87th Street off S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive and follow it all the way east until it ends. You will see the parking lot there.
Please note that the meeting spot may change. More information will be shared with attendees ahead of the event.
