Lauren Umek, a Project Manager with Chicago Park District's Department of Cultural and Natural Resources, will tell us about removal of the North Branch dam at River Park.

Built in 1910, the dam was eliminated in July 2018 in an effort to open up 20 miles of the river for fish and provide new recreational and education opportunities. She will describe how 3 different municipalities, each serving a different geographic region, with different missions and funding sources, worked together to restore this critical piece of local ecology and how it fits into a larger conservation context. Lauren oversaw the removal of the North Branch dam.

Everyone welcome for socialization and refreshments at 7.

Program begins at 7:15.
