Big Day Bird Count and Walk

  • Trailside Museum 738 Thatcher Avenue River Forest, IL, 60305 United States (map)

October 17 is Audubon Society’s annual “Big Day Bird Count!”

Celebrate the BIG DAY Bird Count with the Chicago Audubon Society and The Forest Preserves of Cook County at Thatcher Woods by joining us for a bird walk.

It’s a day when we encourage as many people as possible to go out and count all the birds they see in one day. This serves to give a snapshot of bird numbers. Think of it as a bird census! The easiest way to enter data is also the easiest way for scientists to access the data, via e-Bird.

We will see how many birds we can report on the eBird app that day.  Binoculars available to loan.

Masks must be worn. See our full Covid safety guidelines.

Call 708-366-6530 or email trailside.museum@cookcountyil.gov to register.

Start time is 7:30 AM for formal walk/count, but end time is open.

If you can’t join us in person, count birds on your own at E-Bird’s Thatcher Woods Forest Preserve Hotspot.
