LGBTQ+ Out In Nature Meet Up - Climbing at Steelworkers Park

  • Steelworkers Park East 87th Street Chicago, IL United States (map)

Join fellow LGBTQ+ outdoor enthusiasts for a FREE morning climb!

Previously part of the US Steel Complex known as South Works, Steelworkers Park was recently transformed into an attractive landscape with natural areas, trees, walking paths and exquisite views of Lake Michigan. The property is edged by remnant elements of the steel industry, most notably a series of enormous concrete ore walls which have been converted into rock climbing walls.

Chicago Park District will host a facilitated climb for our group that is open to all regardless of experience level. Attendees will be provided with Chicago Park District-issued climbing equipment (harness, helmets and shoes) and facilitated use of the auto-belays will be included. Attendees are invited to stay and climb during the open public climb immediately following the event.

Plan to arrive shortly before 9 A.M. All climbers must sign a Chicago Park District waiver, valid for 12 months. Athletic clothing, sunblock, water, and closed-toed shoes are recommended. There is free parking on site, but no water fountains or bathrooms.

Due to COVID-19, event capacity has been limited to 15 participants. Please RSVP using the Eventbrite platform. To respect our community and accommodate the waitlist, cancellations must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance. Repeated failure to respect this policy may result in a ban from group activities.

If there's anything we can do to accommodate you or answer questions, please reach out to Forrest Cortes at urbantarzann@gmail.com.
