Birders, take your photos to the next level. Come spend 3 hours at North Park Village Nature Center in Chicago. Learn how to celebrate the beauty of birds and nature with your photography. This will include in-class time and outside observation and photography in the nature center’s birding blind.

I will share my top tips for creative composition, using available daylight, location, weather, and what gear works best for your skill level and budget. Dodd Camera, Chicago’s premier photography store, will be on hand with some mirrorless cameras and telephoto lenses to try out.

Nature and bird photography are my passions. Having traveled to many birding hot spots like the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, the Gulf Coast of Florida, and the Indiana Dunes National Park. Some of my favorite bird photos were taken at local Midwest nature centers, forest preserves, and my own backyard. My appreciation for birds began early while watching and feeding birds, and later learning photography. This became my way of capturing images of the amazing world of birds and nature all around us.

I also guide photo walks for The Urban Birding Festival and Indiana Dunes Birding Festival. My media and photography business is based in Chicago.

My hope for students is that they learn to become better photographers by creating images with an emotional connection that will spark curiosity, empathy, and a sense of responsibility for the natural world.
