Bird Walk at Washington Park

  • Washington Park Chicago, IL (map)

Join CBA for a morning bird walk at Washington Park. Designed by famed architect Frederick Law Olmsted, Washington Park is a natural area encompassing 35.7 acres of prairie and wetland habitat. The park hosts many migrating and summering songbirds and water birds. For heron lovers, all three potential species (Great Blue herons, Black crowned-night herons and Green herons) can regularly be found. The park is also home to wildlife like painted turtles, snapping turtles, and muskrats.

The total trip distance is approximately 1 mile. Most will take place on relatively flat asphalt, grass, and natural dirt terrain, which can be prone to muddy conditions and, occasionally, trail obstacles including root heave and holes.

Dress for the weather and wear sensible shoes. Restrooms and water fountains are available inside the field house building. Loaner binoculars will be available.

Registration is required. More details will be provided to registered attendees ahead of the trip if/as needed.

Meeting Spot: Washington Park Refectory/Washington Park Fieldhouse, located on Russell Drive and Morgan Drive, approximately here. There is plenty of parking.
