LGBTQ+ Out in Nature Meet Up - Urban Ecology at Taylor Street Farms

  • Taylor Street Farms 1313 West Arthington Street Chicago, IL, 60607 United States (map)

Join fellow LGBTQ+ nature enthusiasts to celebrate urban ecology at Taylor Street Farms!

Taylor Street Farms is a growing hub of urban ecology and organic gardening in the heart of Chicago’s historic Little Italy! Led by volunteer leader Alex Palmer, we will start off the morning learning about some of the sustainability projects and initiatives of the Taylor Street Farms community garden, located within a one block “eco-triangle” consisting of the community garden, the Little Italy Branch of the Chicago Public Library, mixed-income housing units, and the future home of the National Public Housing Museum. We will then help with invasive species removal, litter cleanup, and other garden maintenance tasks. Afterwards, we’ll hit up Kurimu for some Asian-style ice cream and frozen treats.

We will meet at the corner of S. Ada St. and W. Arthington St. Paid parking is available on Taylor Street nearby. Do not park in Zone 5 parking without a permit. Biking, walking, and public transportation use is encouraged. Nearby CTA ‘L’ stops: Racine-Blue Line, Polk - Pink Line. CTA Bus Routes 60, 9, and 12 are also nearby.

Please bring a water bottle, sturdy shoes, gardening gloves, sunscreen, bug repellent, and a mask. A very limited supply of gardening gloves are available onsite. The interior of the garden is unpaved, but the outer edge is adjacent to an accessible sidewalk. Due to COVID-19, event capacity has been limited to 15 participants. Please RSVP using the Eventbrite platform.

If there's anything we can do to accommodate you or answer questions, please reach out to Forrest Cortes at urbantarzann@gmail.com.
