Wooded Island Bird Walk

  • Wooded Island, Jackson Park Meet at the west side of the Columbia Basin Chicago, IL, 60637 United States (map)

Hello everyone,

I wish I could tell you that we had a fabulously exciting morning…but I can’t. We enjoyed our usual winter residents however, and it was good to spend some time outdoors.

We had a LOT of Red-breasted Mergansers and the males were displaying for the females, which is always fun to watch. There were a lot more males than females so the girls had their pick. We had a very close look at a Cooper’s Hawk that was perched outside the Japanese Garden, right above the path.

Although I can’t report the sighting of a super-interesting bird, I can pass along a link to an article about La Rabida Hospial that Mark W. sent to me. He though that those of you who bird the area around the hospital might find it interesting. I did!
