Hello everyone,
It was a beautifully sunny and a not too terribly cold morning, but it’s definitely winter. The leaves that were on the trees last week have either fallen or turned brown and will fall soon. We had more bird species than birders so we made our winter goal. Hooray!
It was a Robin and Starling filled morning with high numbers of both species. A couple Great Blue Herons were still around, but they looked cold and there was only a little open water for them. Our juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron was not there this week, which hopefully means that it finally moved on to a warmer climate. Even with the open water we had no ducks – not even a mallard. Randy posted a report on Facebook from his Saturday morning walk and commented that he had a large number of mallards in the outer harbor, so that’s where our locals must have been.
When he walked ahead, Eric was lucky enough to come across a small flock of Eastern Bluebirds but they were no where to be found when the rest of us got to the spot. But, it’s nice to know that they are around.
