Wooded Island Bird Walk

  • Wooded Island, Jackson Park Meet at the west side of the Columbia Basin Chicago, IL, 60637 United States (map)

Hello everyone,

It was a lovely morning and we all enjoyed just being outside, in addition to the birds. We had two Black-crowned Night Herons in the Japanese Garden. We assume that one is Osaka and the other is the interloper.

Many of us had a great up-close look at a Warbling Vireo, a bird that doesn’t always like to come out in the open. They are so pretty with their soft grey feathers. We also had a lot of American Robins including many adorable speckled juveniles.

A White-crowned Sparrow on the path in the former Rose Garden was a nice surprise. A Belted Kingfisher was perched on a tree on one of the islands in the lagoon, but wasn’t calling when it flew, oddly enough. It was nice to see it though.

And we had our heron trifecta plus Great Egret, which is our summertime goal.
