Wooded Island Birding Outing

  • Jackson Park Chicago, Illinois (map)

Hello everyone,

Well, we managed to get in an hour and 45 minutes of birding before the rain started, but it rained pretty hard so we only walked to the south end of the island and back before running home for cover.

We found some nice birds in our short time out, however. Some swallows were mercilessly harassing a Cooper’s Hawk. We had a surprisingly large flock of 23 House Finches in the dead tree outside the Osaka Garden. The Heron trifecta plus Egret was present, with the Green Heron showing off its balancing skills on the lily pads. The Eastern Kingbirds didn’t seem to be bothered by the rain and they were flying about as usual. All in all, it was a pretty good walk, short but good. Let’s hope for drier weather this Saturday.
