Hello everyone,
It was cold, but not too dreadful because the winds were light. We were happy to exceed our winter goal of more birders than bird species, but we didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. That’s OK though, we like our resident, local birds too.
There was one Common Goldeneye in the very small patch of open water in the harbor. All the other areas of water in the park were completely frozen. We had a nice Red-shouldered Hawk flyover at the start of the walk, and Sarah and Amir found six Cedar Waxwings in the parkway between Stony Island and Cornell. It’s the time of year when our Cardinals look especially striking with their bright red plumage against the while snow and brown vegetation – a lovely sight.
